Charles Darwin Foundation

For nearly 60 years, the Charles Darwin Foundation has been the premier research source dedicated solely to the conservation and sustainability of the Galapagos Islands’ ecosystems. Phoenix Philanthropy’s international experience helped build CDF’s fundraising operation from the ground up by deploying a team to formulate all aspects of operations, so that when the new Chief Development Officer came on board, she could immediately be in the field, raising money. We provided an internal assessment and environmental scan of the Foundation and its programs; developed key aspects of a basic fundraising operation and infrastructure, including funding priorities, budgets, goals, case for support, a fundraising plan, and communications plan; prospect and donor relationship management; volunteer leadership development; global fundraising strategies; performance reporting; and coaching and training. We also provided service as Interim Chief Development Officer and assisted in the search for and transition to the permanent Chief Development Officer. As a result of our partnership, CDF’s fundraising performance realized a double-digit improvement in one year.

“Phoenix Philanthropy was instrumental in setting up the necessary infrastructure to allow the Charles Darwin Foundation to seek new donors, including major gifts, annual fund appeals, marketing campaigns and institutional support. Furthermore, Richard Tollefson and his team at Phoenix Philanthropy were incredibly professional and eager to help with any task to help CDF launch a successful fundraising team. We are grateful for Phoenix Philanthropy’s great assistance to help CDF become self-sufficient with its fundraising efforts.”
